Talon stepped forward from the side of the building, glaring back at it with venemous eyes. When he turned back, he realized the girl was looking at him. No... that wasn't correct. She was looking toward him. Her eyes were unfocused, she was lost in thought. He had an idea of what she might've been told, though he wasn't completely clear on the details. Solemnly, he put a hand on her shoulder and stared at her, straight into her eyes. One... two... three. He dropped his hand again and turned away. That was all the comfort he would offer. At least she got any at all.

Quill watched, fascinated, when Talon steadied Raz. Though this was far from a display of emotion, he still had never seen Talon even acknowledge the existence of another, lest it be while fighting. He thought back to what the Shir'riek had said, about the three of them sticking together.

"Well then, I guess we should be moving on. Where to, little lady? Talon and I 'ave never really had a destination, so I s'ppose we're goin' wherever you are."

Raz stared after Talon for a moment, oddly uncomfortable. She hadn't been touched kindly in a long, long while. It felt like it had been ages since her mother had gathered her into her arms and let her cry after her father had died. Of course, Talon hadn't actually hugged her, nor had she cried, but the gesture was a nice one.

Raz turned her attention towards Quill's inquiry. A sick feeling welled up in her stomach as she realized what she had to do if she wanted to track her prey.

"The Barren Lands. I need to go back to the Burning Lands."

"Home" the fire whispered, delightedly purring inside of her chest "We are going home"

Quill's eyes widened. For a moment, he hesitated. He had been many places in his lifetime, but the Barren Lands were still a formidable, mysterious unknown to him. It was minutes before he responded again.

"To the Barren Lands we go."

After the decision had been made Raz had, of course, taken the lead. Born and bred in the Barren Lands made it almost impossible for her to get lost in the immense desert, unlike the men who followed behind her.

It was as they were reaching the edges of town that trouble (unsuprisingly) found Raz. Along the way she had been silently picking pockets, gathering money and little things that she thought they would need on their journey. A particularly nice-looking rune hanging from a white-haired guy's pocket caught her attention.

With the light movements of any gypsy Raz slipped the rune from his clothing and stuffed it in hers. He didn't appear to notice, either, but someone else did- someone who had been watching her for a while, waiting for her to make a mistake.

"Thief! Thief! The Ruik stole from Cade!" Gover roared from the darkness of an alley, a gleeful grin spread over his face as the crowd picked up his chant and moved to surround the bitch who'd broken his fingers.

No one paid any mind to the white-haired man trying to calm to growing storm.

((No more time to develop her and Quill's friendship?? kay, whatever.))

Quill spun around and glared at Raz, taking her by the arm. He had been travelling with her for a few weeks now, and already felt a sense of fatherly affection. That affection, however, included all the disappointments that came with it.

"Missy, what did you do?! You can't just run around stealing people's belongins' in broad daylight!"

Swiftly and deftly, he tried to drag her out of the crowd, Talon clearing the way in front of him.

Raz sighed and rolled her eyes. It wasn't that big of a deal- she had been caught before and still survived. Even my mother was never this hysterical- she was proud!

Indeed, Raz had grown up supplying for herself with quick fingers and quicker feet. Her shapeshifting skill was especially handy when she got caught in a jam.

The crowd pressed in against them, and Raz felt the fire aching in her fingertips. She sent out a warning flare and many of the mob backed of in fright, like startled horses.

Cade sighed deep in his throat in exasperation. Honestly, it wasn't as if the Rune that the Ruik girl had taken was anthing special. I can always get another one from some adoring fan or something...

At Razelle's display of power, even Quill jumped a little. Ruikens were a dangerous people, he knew that all too well. If she made any mistake with that little gift of hers, he knew he'd be the first to fry. After wading through the people to the edge of the square Quill dragged Raz down a few streets, getting as far away from the crowds as he could. After almost a mile he stopped, spinning her around.

    "What were you thinking?!"

Behind him, Talon stood straight and tall, keeping watch on both the streets around them and the girl. Though Quill may trust her already, he had no such intents.

Raz huffed, her stance as lazy as her reply, "I was thinking I wanted that rune. I got the rune. The end. Happily ever after." The Ruik honestly didn't understand Quill's incredulous expression. She had been taught to obtain what she wanted and she knew many ways to do so- the fact that she was depriving others of something that was rightfully theirs had never really occured to Raz.

"Take" The fire echoed her thoughts, thrumming happily "Feed" "Devour"
